With over 100 years experience, we’re no strangers to rearing quality and sustainable beef, in fact, we’re renowned for it. And with that experience, comes passion, resilience and an incredibly strong understanding of our environment.
Prumpelstown Estate is a premium, regeneratively farmed meat, produced hand in hand with nature, nourishing both the environment and the world, offering consumers a sustainable and delicious protein choice.
Dating back to the 19th century and steeped in Irish history, Prumpelstown Estate has been farmed conventionally for generations. In 2020, it saw the beginning of the transition to regenerative farming and the modelling of the Project Regen approach.
Nurtured through Project Regen, Buitelaar Group’s long-term farming commitment to creating positive environmental impact through regenerative agriculture, Prumpelstown Estate beef has been carefully reared with the planet and a sustainable farming future in mind. Through documenting and sharing the learnings of our journey, Prumpelstown Estate acts as a key knowledge transfer mechanism, inspiring other farmers to change their mindset, adopt new ways of farming, learn from our mistakes and help reverse climate change.
The integration of cattle allows for humans, animals and plants to thrive harmoniously in a circular system approach. Creating nutrient-dense foods, strengthening our crucial soils and increasing biodiversity, the resulting complex ecosystems help to better facilitate carbon sequestration; just one of the regenerative factors contributing to a healthier environment.
Grazing on tasty and nutritious Multi-Species Swards that provide a diverse mix of grasses, legumes, and other plants, our cattle are fed a rich salad bowl of herbaceous goodness every day. By ‘migrating’ pastures regularly, the herd benefits from constant access to fresh, nutritious forage, allowing for optimal nutrient ingestion from the sward, while also promoting healthy preservation of the grasses for the next planned rotation.
Better adapted to exposure to the natural elements due to their innately robust form, the native animal is well suited to more extensive grazing systems in our environment.
Efficient at converting pasture and laying down fat, they lend themselves to yielding exceptional quality beef. In addition, this enables them to perform without grains such as soya and cereals, thus considerably reducing their carbon footprint.
Over the last fifteen years, we have researched and trialled the effect of beef genetics on the animal throughout the lifecycle, focusing on the animal that will thrive within a regenerative model, fattening well on a naturally lush environment, delivering superior eating qualities.
The result of this, is our cattle will finish at a younger age than typically seen, minimising each animal’s impact on the environment and maximising efficiency and profitability for the farmer.
Through our strong focus on breeding the right animal for
our regenerative ambitions, we have been highly
influential in reviving England’s oldest breed, the Longhorn,
increasing the herd size by circa 30% in 2022.
Our Prumpelstown Estate beef is sold into high end restaurants and exported throughout Europe.
