Buitelaar at Groundswell 2025
Last week, the Buitelaar team returned to Groundswell Agriculture 2025, one of the UK’s leading events celebrating regenerative farming and sustainable agriculture. Set against the backdrop of informative talks, hands-on workshops, and festival-like energy, the event brought together farmers, innovators, and industry experts all passionate about shaping the future of food and farming.
Driving Forward Regenerative Farming
At the heart of Groundswell lies a clear mission: to explore practical solutions that restore ecosystems, rebuild soil health, and improve farming resilience. Our UK and Irish Agricultural Teams embraced this mission, taking part in expert sessions and connecting with like-minded farmers who share our drive for positive change through regenerative agriculture.
Our presence on stand focused on showcasing two key Buitelaar initiatives:
- Project Regen
- Our Bed & Breakfast system.
These systems are designed to make cattle integration more accessible and impactful—helping farmers introduce livestock into arable systems in a way that enhances biodiversity, improves soil structure, and increases long-term sustainability.
Cattle Integration for Resilient, Sustainable Agriculture
As interest in cattle integration continues to grow, we were proud to share how our farming models can deliver both environmental and commercial benefits. Integrating cattle into crop rotations offers multiple gains: increasing organic matter, reducing inputs, boosting soil fertility, and ultimately supporting the resilience of farming systems.
Many visitors to our stand were eager to learn how Buitelaar’s approach aligns with regenerative principles while remaining commercially viable for the modern farmer. With more producers looking for ways to diversify and future-proof their operations, this was a major talking point across the event.
A Royal Conversation on the Future of Farming
One of the standout moments at this year’s Groundswell was welcoming HRH The Duchess of Edinburgh, Sophie, to our stand. We had the honour of engaging in a meaningful discussion around two topics we care deeply about:
- The challenges facing young people entering farming
- Ongoing supply chain pressures affecting the agriculture industry
The Duchess’s genuine interest and commitment to these issues made for an inspiring exchange. At Buitelaar, we remain focused on breaking down barriers and creating opportunities for the next generation to thrive in a sustainable agricultural landscape.
Native Breeds in Regenerative Farming: The Longhorn Effect
Another highlight—especially amongst younger visitors—was the chance to meet our Longhorn calves, who quickly became the event’s unofficial selfie spot. But beyond the photo opportunities, these native cattle breeds sparked serious conversations around their role in low-input, conservation grazing systems.
As part of a regenerative farming model, traditional breeds like Longhorns are invaluable. Their grazing patterns support biodiversity, improve pasture health, and contribute to regenerative soil management—all without the need for intensive inputs.
Why Groundswell Matters
As always, Groundswell delivered far more than a showcase—it created space for collaboration, education, and innovation. Whether through interactive sessions, panel discussions or informal chats in the field, it offered valuable insight into the evolving world of regenerative and sustainable agriculture.
The message was clear: “Resilience is Fertile.” And as we work together to regenerate soil, support ecosystems, and deliver food security, resilience must also be rooted in commercial viability. It’s this balanced, practical approach that Groundswell champions—and that Buitelaar is proud to support.
Until next year, Groundswell. We’ll be back!
