Revolutionising Beef Production: Buitelaar Group's Commitment to Regenerative Farming

Six years on from the initial launch of the Longhorn Scheme, Buitelaar Group continues to spearhead a transformative approach to beef production through its unwavering dedication to regenerative farming practices.

By working closely with farmers, we're not only producing top-quality beef to nourish the nation, but also playing our part in giving back to the land. Through Project Regen, our journey focuses on enhancing soil health, plant health and, by extension, human health all while delivering a well-marketed, nutrient-dense end product that supports the planet and secures a sustainable future for generations to come.

Regenerative Farming and the Role of Longhorn Cattle

Our Longhorn Scheme, implemented over five years ago, marked the beginning of a journey towards redefining the standards of beef production. Through meticulous breeding programmes, innovative land management, and a more holistic approach to rearing systems, Buitelaar Group has not only achieved significant milestones but has helped to set a new benchmark for the industry.

Despite facing a rapid decline in the past the breed is returning to popularity, due to an ever-increasing consumer-led market and a growth of interest in grass fed cattle.

As advocates of the breed, we're working with several English Longhorn breeders, to support the traditional breed's development through our 𝐋𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐧 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐦𝐞.

The breeds adaptability, hardiness, and ability to thrive on a low input diet makes them the perfect partner for regenerative farming practices.

Working closely with a select number of dairy farmers, we’re working together to input the best Longhorn beef genetics to dairy cows which then go onto produce spritely, vibrant calves, providing dairy farmers with peace of mind during busy calving times.

Promoting Soil Health and Biodiversity

In the pursuit of regenerative farming, we actively work with farmers to prioritise soil health, embracing techniques that promote carbon sequestration; we aim to not only meet, but exceed the expectations of conscientious consumers who seek ethically and sustainably produced beef.

Environmental Preservation and Economic Viability

Our regenerative approach is not only environmentally responsible but also economically viable. By working closely with farmers, we are not only supporting regenerative practices but also ensuring that farmers benefit from more secure and stable incomes. This dual focus on environmental preservation and economic viability is a win-win for all involved.

Looking ahead, our commitment remains resolute. Through ongoing research, collaboration with industry experts, and continuous improvement through evidence based facts, we will continue to contribute to a more resilient food system—one that not only satisfies the demand for high-quality beef but also honours our responsibility to the planet and future generations.

Our journey towards regenerative farming practices is not just about beef; it's about securing a better future for the planet and for generations to come.
